Abstract

The collected ultrasonic guided waves (UGWs) superimpose several interference signals in the structural damage localization, which severely affects the localization accuracy. The multi-fold method for seismic wave was tried introducing into UGWs to overcome the distortions of ultrasonic signals in the traditional filtering process after being improved. The improved multi-fold (IMF) can be described as follows: UGWs, which are collected repeatedly for many times, are superimposed to obtain their average values using a weighted average algorithm after their arrival times and drifted zero points have been corrected. During the application for echo signal, the denoising effect of the IMF method improves with the increase of the superposition times. Through the practical application in the damage localization of steel pipeline, the IMF method for UGW is confirmed to be feasible, excellent and stable.
