Abstract

Urbanization of Serbia in the second half of the 20th century pointed to the need for planned use of space. To this end, a project was launched to create a basic engineering geological map of Serbia at a scale of 1: 100,000. Basic Engineering Geological Map represents general engineering geological features and terrain conditions. This map should be basis for the needs of spatial and urban planning and design of investigation works. For this purpose, the territory of Serbia is divided into 79 sheets. From them, 31 sheets have been completed and 6 sheets are not scheduled for production. Currently, the sheets Boljevac, Sjenica, Aleksinac and Valjevo are under production. So far, only 6 sheets were printed. In order to complete the project, it is necessary to complete another 38 sheets which covers 33% territory of Serbia. The largest number of sheets were produced in the period after 2000. Research is focused on the area south of the Sava and Danube rivers, because landslides are more common in these areas. In order to complete the project, it is necessary to continue with the achieved dynamics, to open new sheets more quickly and to increase the number of sheets under production.
