Abstract
Communicating is not merely convey information . Communicating is also a form of interaction that must take into account the values of politeness . Politeness is often divided into two types , namely positive and negative politeness . This paper specifically want to study positive politeness in the Chinese ethnic community in Surakarta . The goal is to understand the realization of positive politeness in the Chinese ethnic in Surakarta . Data were obtained from interviews with informants . The results of data analysis showed that positive politeness in the Chinese ethnic community can be achieved through several strategies , namely ( a) the use of kinship terms , ( b ) naming directly , ( c ) the use of low Javanese language , and ( d ) the use of Mandarin language or Mandarin elements .
