Abstract

White noise is an important topic in communication, digital signal processing (DSP), and data security. Two types of white noise that frequently are used are white uniform noise (WUN) and white Gaussian noise (WGN). The names for the noise indicate the probability distribution function (pdf) of each noise source. White noise has equal power per unit signal's bandwidth. There are several algorithms to generate white noise which is obtained from generating the pseudo–random number. In this paper, we focus on a particular class of generators suitable for real–time applications. It presents the theoretical aspects and the implementation issues of white noise generation. Highlight the importance of good random number generators (RNGs), especially in the high level and low level Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs). Making choices among generators requires specific criteria. We used two criteria to choose a good generator; the length of the generation as well as the short implementation period to fit with the real–time environment. We implement real–time signals with specific SNR's. This implementation was on Texas Instruments TMS320C6713 floating point DSP board.
