Abstract

In this paper, an on-line adjustment system for a flexible milling center is presented. Data from inspection are used for computation of tool offsets. The measurement of a part allows some corrections for the machining of the next part. A model taking tool wear and tool offset into consideration is proposed. Various methods are given to solve the problem. An optimal approach aiming at automatic control of the flexible cell is taken. Another approach, based on fuzzy sets, is applied to the presentation of data to operator. Measurement filtering for the estimation of part dimensions and for the prediction of tool wear is also outlined.
