Abstract

The kinetics of phase transformations in TMATC-Zn ([N(CH 3) 4] 2ZnCl 6) has been studied using time-resolved triple axis spectroscopy. Satellite spectra were recorded as a function of time during temperature cycling across the 1/3↔2/5 transition as well as the 2/5↔incommensurate transition. At both transformations, a definite switching between two cell defined states is observed rather than a continuos shift of wave vectors. No intermediate states are found. At the lock-in transition, the coexistence region of the commensurate (2/5) phase and the incommensurate one is enlarged up to several K under dynamical conditions.
