Abstract

The Leak Detection and Isolation (LDI) algorithm proposed by Benkherouf and Allidina [1988], is implemented in real-time on a plastic pipeline that transports water. In order to achieve this aim, it was necessary to improve that algorithm to tackle several phenomena found in a real application such as a non constant friction factor, variations in the Equivalent Straight Length (ESL) and influence of temperature in some parameters. First, the parameter values are adjusted in function of the temperature of water. Then, the Swamee-Jain equation is used to update the friction factor. Finally, with the obtained friction, the ESL is updated. Real-time results are presented to assess the efficiency of the improved LDI.
