Abstract

Actual occurrences of cost (point loss per response) were compared with verbal instructions to imagine occurrences of cost in terms of their relative suppression of inter-reinforcement responding under an FI 10 sec. schedule of point reinforcements. Both real and imagined cost attenuated responding. Real cost, however, produced more marked and consistent suppressive effects than imagined cost.
