Abstract
Methyl arylcarbodithioates react with ethyl isothiocyanatoacetate in the presence of sodium hydride in tetrahydrofuran to give the sodium salts of ethyl 5-aryl-2-mercapto-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylates. In situ methylation affords the corresponding 2-methylthio derivatives
