Abstract

The ability to efficiently regulate muscle blood flow in proportion to metabolic demand is critical for optimal muscle performance and has been an enduring subject of investigation that continues to intrigue the readers of The Journal of Physiology. Comprehensive answers to fundamental questions such as how muscle blood flow is increased during contraction and how it is appropriately distributed to the most metabolically active muscle fibres remain surprisingly elusive.
