Abstract

C OTTON culture and cotton manufacture, as now developed, are very largely the product of international trade. If this trade were suddenly interrupted, it would bring disaster to every important cotton-growing and cottonmanufacturing country in the world, and would menace the clothing supply of all peoples, from the savage wearing only the loin cloth to the fastidious metropolitan club man having a change of clothing for every occasion.
