Abstract
The first season of the Fox network's television show Sleepy Hollow is based on a biblical premise. This article explores how the Bible is portrayed in the series, through the lens of iconic books. It is argued that what makes books iconic is their power to “save” (“salvation”). In the case of the Bible in Sleepy Hollow, this involves representing the Bible as a grimoire. This representation only becomes clear as the use of the Bible throughout the season is surveyed in its role as a performative text.
