Abstract

Reading characteristics of MR head for perpendicular magnetic recording is investigated with a simulation based on the reciprocity theory and experiments using a single for wring. Double layer perpendicular medium is used. Narrower isolated pulse-width and higher D50 than longitudinal recording even with an MR head of the same shield gap length is confirmed theoretically and experimentally. A D50 of 270 kFRPI and a SN ratio of more than 30 dBpp/rms up to about 200 kFRPI is obtained with a differentiator.
