Abstract
Abstract: Marguerite de Navarre's political importance as François I's sister and Henri IV's grandmother, together with her accomplishments as poet and writer of stories, drew attention in her own day and still does today. Much remains to discuss, not least her treatments of gender and the environment. Offering a close reading of the pigs in Story 34 of the Heptaméron, this essay considers how current ecological knowledge might give us a new perspective on this important early modern woman writer.
