Abstract
AbstractJames K. Smith's recent article "Thinking in Tongues" has made an important contribution in mining Pentecostal instincts and practices for their theological foundations and implications. He not only strikes a chord with Pentecostal readers, but presents a powerful apologetic for Pentecostal theology to non-Pentecostal readers also. The following article uses Smith's thinking as a springboard to introduce a distinctively Pentecostal hermeneutic that seeks an encounter with the Spirit in the reading of the text and is rooted in the mission of the church.
