Abstract

This article focuses on knowledge of families' involvement in intensive family preservation services, the intensive crisis oriented services designed to prevent the unnecessary out-of-home placement of children. On the basis of our assessment of the intensive family preservation literature, we identify gaps in knowledge that might be filled appropriately by exploration with qualitative methodologies. Gaps identified pertain to the context of service delivery, the theory of family preservation practice, the process of service delivery, and the conceptualization and meaning of service outcomes.
