Abstract

Ma et al.1 presented robust epidemiologic evidence in the association of very low levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-cholesterol) with risk of intracerebral hemorrhage using the data of a huge prospective cohort of Chinese with repeated measures of LDL-cholesterol. Contrasted with the “high cholesterol ischemic heart disease hypothesis,” their result is consistent to support a “very low cholesterol intraparenchymal hemorrhage hypothesis;”2–4 one of them showed a graded excess risk of mortality from intracerebral hemorrhage only among persons with LDL-cholesterol levels of <100 mg/dL2, which supported the finding from Ma's study.1
