Abstract

The interaction of chemical reactions and electrochemical reactions in batch electrosynthesis is analysed for the classic E.C.E. scheme and a series, parallel chemical/electrochemical reaction scheme. The latter is considered as an approximation of the production of p-aminophenol in acidified electrolyte during potentiostatic electrolysis. The effect of mass transport on performance is discussed and the important influence of chemical reaction in relation to mass transport highlighted. Galvanostatic operation of these reactions in batch reactors is also discussed.
