Abstract

Abstract The reaction of LAlH2 [L = HC(CMeNAr)2, Ar = 2, 6‐iPr2C6H3] (1) with 2‐[(2‐hydroxybenzylidene)amino]‐3‐mercaptopropionic acid and benzene‐1, 2‐diamine resulted in the compounds LAl[(μ‐O)(o‐C6H4)][(μ‐O)(COCHCH2SH)](NCH) (2) and LAl(μ‐NH)2(o‐C6H4) (3), respectively. Compound 2 is an unusual aluminum Schiff base, which exhibits a C3NAlO six‐ and a C2NAlO five‐membered ring, which share the same Al←N coordinate bond. Moreover the aluminum atom is five‐coordinate and functions as the center of the three heterocycles. Compound 3 features an organic‐inorganic hybrid containing a C2N2Al five‐membered ring. Complexes 2 and 3 were characterized by 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction studies.
