Abstract
1. We have synthesized 4-substituted 2-(m-fluorophenyl)- and 2-(p-fluorophenyl) pyrimidines and measured their19F NMR chemical shifts. 2. The σI and σR0 constants of the 4-substituted 2-pyrimidyl groups have been calculated on the basis of the δ19F values. Both the mesomeric and the inductive effects of the substituted pyrimidyl group depend on the inductive and mesomeric effects of the substituent X.
