Abstract

The ability of coal to react with the dienophile maleic anhydride has been demonstrated. The contribution of acylation, sorption and polymerization processes is known to be negligible. These reactions depend on coal rank, and may proceed to form diene synthesis products or be arrested at the charge transfer paramagnetic complex stage.
