Abstract

This paper presents a new method for reactive power metering in non-linear circuits for non-linear current and supply voltage. For calculating reactive power by the Maewski method, we propose referring to the first voltage harmonic obtained by a special filter. This solution greatly simplifies reactive power metering compared to the Hilbert transform, as it does not require the Fourier transform or signal bias in the temporary area. This proposed metering method was verified using a controlled rectifier circuit as implemented in Simulink. The modeling error of 0.19% proves the proposed method is appropriate for metering the reactive power in non-sinusoidal circuits.
