Abstract
Smart meters open new possibilities for public lighting network operation but installation smart meters in Slovakia causes increasing fees for the operators also. The reasons are costs for reactive power. The payments for reactive power start with smart meter using and they are for consumers with smart meters only. The aim of the paper is describe the current situation from the point of view the distribution grid operator and the operator of the public lighting network, show measured data from real public lighting networks.
