Abstract

The tricarbonylcyclohexadienyliron cation alkylates the nucleoside bases adenine and guanine to give both mono- and di-alkylated derivatives. The nucleoside base cytosine and the nucleosides adenosine and guanosine are alkylated to give monoalkyl derivatives. The alkylations appear to be readily reversible. The structures of the alkylated derivatives are discussed and probable structures assigned.
