Abstract

A study was made of the zones of diffusional reaction of titanium diboride with carbon steels and Armco iron in a glow discharge. It was established that with rise in carbon concentration in the steel the width of the diffusional reaction zone grows, attaining a maximum for a steel with a carbon content of 1.6%. The solidphase diffusional reaction of titanium diboride with a carbon steel results in the formation of a constanthardness frontal zone located in the center of the reaction zone.
