Abstract

Tetrathiotetraimide reacts with aluminium chloride and bromide to form 1:1 adducts, and with tin tetrabromide to give a tetrasulphur tetranitride adduct (S 4N 4) 2·SnBr 4. The ring can be metallated stepwise with n-butyl lithium to give finally (SNLi) 4. Chlorine (or sulphuryl chloride) and bromine cause ring contraction forming trithiazyl trichloride (NSCl) 3 and thiotrithiazyl bromide, S 4N 3Br, respectively.
