Abstract

Abstract From the reaction results of p-benzoquinone derivatives with various amino compounds, it becomes clear that chloranil reacts with ethylenediamine to afford an unexpected product. The spectroscopic analyses of the product show that this is an addition compound with some contribution of charge-transfer structures. Bromanil gives a similar product upon reaction with ethylenediamine.
