Abstract

[Mo(NO)L *Cl 2] [L * = hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-l-yl)borate] reacted with S(SnPh 3) 2 to give {[Mo(NO)L *Cl} 2(μ-S 2)] in low yield. The reaction between [Et 3NH] [Mo(NO)L *Cl 2] and elemental sulphur afforded [{Mo(NO)L *} 2(μ-S) 2] and [{Mo(NO)L *Cl} 2(μ-S 2)]. Both compounds undergo reversible one-electron reductions. The molecular structure of one isomer of [{Mo(NO)L *Cl} 2(μ-S 2)] was determined crystallographically and the compound contains an MoSSMo core with short MoS distances of 2.310 Å, but no direct metal-metal bond.
