Abstract

1. A study has been made of the reactions of cyclopentane, ethylcyclopentane, ethylcyclohexane, and ethylbenzene in contact with activated Troshkov clay at 500°. 2. It has been established that the degree of conversion of cycloalkanes increases with increase in molecular weight. For cyclopentane the degree of conversion is 10–12% for ethylcyclopentane it is 26–28% and for ethylcyclohexane it is 40–41%. 3. On the basis of a comparative study of the behavior of ethylcyclohexane and ethylbenzene it is suggested that under the given catalysis conditions, reactions leading to the synthesis of alkyl derivatives are more rapid than the dehydrogenation of the original ethylcyclohexane.
