Abstract
The reactions of 2,4-, 2,3-, and 3,5-lutidines and 2,4,6-collidine with ether solutions of chloramine were examined. Only in the case of 3,5-lutidine was an amination product obtained. In the other cases ammonium chloride and the hydrochlorides of the respective nitrogen bases were the only solids isolated. The crystal structures of the amination product was determined by X-ray diffraction and shown to be N-amino-3,5-dimethylpyridinium chloride, C 7 H 11 N 2 Cl. Crystals are triclinic, space group P1
