Abstract

1. It is shown that the reaction between carboxylic acid chlorides and dimethylformamide can take a previously unobserved course with formation of the corresponding carboxaldehydes. 2. Depending on the structure of the acid chloride, either transamidation or aldehyde formation can occur. 3. A general scheme is proposed for the reactions of acid chlorides with dimethylformamide.
