Abstract

The reactions of Fe 2+ , Co 2+ , and Ni 2+ with borohydride in aqueous solutions for the preparation of M-B (M =Fe, Co, and Ni) ultrafine amorphous alloy particles (UFAAP) have been studied. A reaction mechanism is proposed, according to which the composition of the M-B products can be predicted and some preparation parameters reported in this paper and in the literature can be explained. The products were characterized and confirmed to be UFAAP by Mossbauer spectroscopy, electron diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy
