Abstract

The reactions of aryl iodides, bromides, chlorides, and fluorides with triethyl-germyl-lithium, -sodium, and -potassium in HPMA/ether have been investigated. The reactions of aryl halides with triethylgermyl anions proceed via two different processes whose relative rates depend on the nature of the halogen and the substrates. In the case of aryl iodides, bromides and fluorides, a radical process is usual. With aryl chlorides, a radical process and an aryne process are involved.
