Abstract

Esters of long-chain alcohols with long-chain acids, i.e., the wax esters, are obtained in high yields by the reaction of alkyl methanesulfonates with the sodium or potassium salts of fatty acids. The procedure is applicable to the preparation of saturated as well as unsaturated esters.
