Abstract

Reactions of 1, 4-cyclohexadiene and 1, 3-cyclohexadiene with aqueous sulfuric acid solution were carried out under various reaction conditions.1, 4-cyclohexadiene was stirred with 500% sulfuric acid at 70°C for five hours in a three-necked flask, and a mixture of cis-and trans-1, 4cyclohexanediols (yield 33 mol 0%) and their sulfates (8 mol 0%) were obtained. In addition, 3-cyclohexenol- (1) was found in the oily product.When 1, 3-cyclohexadiene reacted with 60% sulfuric acid at 60°C for three hours, poly (1, 3-cyclohexadiene), which consists of five to six cyclohexene units, was obtained (yield 82 wt 0% for 1, 3-cyclohexadiene), and 2-cyclohexenol- (1) was found in the oily product.
