Abstract
The reaction directions of complexes [Pt(μ-Cl)(arylolefin)]2 with either weak σ-donor LN,S,O ligands or strong σ-donor NHCs resulting in [PtCl(arylolefin)(LN,S,O)] (series A) or [PtCl(arylolefin)(NHC)] (series B) are decided by electronic properties or steric factors of the ligands, and not by the reaction conditions. Several NMR characteristics to distinguish series A and series B are revealed.
