Abstract
Abstract This paper presents the first study of the reaction of photochemically generated hot hydrogen atoms with but-2-ene. The reaction of hot hydrogen atoms with but-1-ene has also been investigated. It is found that 2-butyl radicals formed by the addition of hot hydrogen atoms to but-1-ene decompose faster than those formed by the addition of hot hydrogen atoms of the same initial energy to but-2-ene, and that the relative decomposition rates are compatible with RRKM calculations. The results extend earlier work on thermal atoms of much lower kinetic energy.
