Abstract

It has been shown that methyltitanium trichloride forms 1 : 2 adducts with the ligands tetrahydrofuran, dimethyl sulphide, tetrahydrothiophen, thioxan, pyridine, and acetonitrile. 1 : 1 adducts have been isolated from analogous reactions with the ligands, tetrahydrofuran, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, dioxan, dithian, 2,5-dithiahexane, α-picoline, 2,2′-bipyridyl, and triphenylphosphine. All adducts showed greater thermal stability than methyltitanium trichloride itself, the adducts formed by bidentate ligands being the most stable. U.v., visible, i.r., and n.m.r. spectra are reported for the complexes.
