Abstract

Methyl benzoate reacts with methylaluminum compounds to give alkylation products. Only the dimethylaluminium chloride alkoxyaluminium compound, formed after double alkylation, readily undergoes further reactions, e.g. the formation of olefins or exhaustive methylation.
