Abstract
As a continuation of work on the obtaining acyclic derivatives of purine bases [1, 2], we pioneered in carrying out a reaction of guanine with glycidol. The latter was shown to add readily and regiospecifically to guanine in aqueous alkali solution to afford 2-amino-6oxy-9-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)purine I, an isomer of the known antiviral drug acyclovir, 9-(2-hydroxyethoxymethyl)guanine.
