Abstract

The seven-coordinate osmium(IV) dihydride cation [OsH2(κ2-O2CCH3)(H2O)(PiPr3)2]BF4 reacts with ethylene to give the tetraethylene dimer complex [{(PiPr3)(η2-C2H4)2Os}2(μ-OH)2(μ-O2CCH3)]BF4, which has been characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. Two ethylene molecules are disposed trans to the hydroxo bridges, and the other two lie trans to the oxygen atoms of the acetate group.
