Abstract
Coumalic acid derivatives represent greener and renewable sources for organic synthesis. We report a new reaction mode by the reaction of 3-Br-coumalate with alkynals, affording the racemic C5/C6 difunctionalized products with excellent diastereoselectivity and unusual Z-selectivity.
