Abstract

AbstractDecreases in isoproterenol and N-t butylnor-isoproterenol concentrations as a function of time have been measured for solutions with different sodium bisulfite concentrations. The pseudo first-order constants are dependent upon the sodium bisulfite concentration and the solution pH. The activation energy for isoproterenol and levarteronol in sodium bisulfite solutions was calculated as 24.4 and 25.0 kilocalories per mole. A minimum rate constant as a function of pH was demonstrated and the general equation was derived for this relationship.
