Abstract

Chemical reaction kinetics for the formation/decomposition of oligomers of formaldehyde and 1-butanol in liquid mixtures of the binary system formaldehyde + 1-butanol as well as of the ternary system formaldehyde + water + 1-butanol were investigated by means of 13C NMR spectroscopy at temperatures from 298 to 348 K at various pH. The NMR spectroscopic data was evaluated to determine rate constants for the formation/decomposition of such oligomers.
