Abstract
Recent developments in electrochemistry have featured a number of techniques used as methods of investigation and analysis and in a wide range of production applications. The diversification of research applications is driven by an increasing need for selective, energy-efficient, nonpolluting, clean processes. Table 1 illustrates some of the trends in applied and fundamental electrochemical research. There is a strong emphasis on the generation of new electrocatalysts, the application of new solvent/electrolyte systems and the study of new reaction systems and appropriate kinetics. The study of kinetics, in which many established steady-state and dynamic methods of electrochemical analysis are applied, is becoming increasingly augmented by newer techniques which can give information about the electrode/electrolyte interface at the molecular level. Application of both classes of methods will enable the principles of electrochemical analysis and reactor design to be more firmly established, removing a large degree of empiricism often associated with this area.KeywordsDiffusion LayerMass Transfer CoefficientReaction LayerPlug FlowContinuous Stir Tank ReactorThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
