Abstract

1. A column has been proposed (KOD dispersed in SE-30 on Chromatone W) that insures deuterium exchange of enolizable H atoms in carbonyl compounds directly in the inlet system of a chromato-mass spectrometer, in order to study the structures of aliphatic alcohols and carbonyl compounds and the mechanisms of their fragmentation under electron impact. 2. Application of this method to ethyl 3-ethylpentyl ketone and ethyl 3-ethylheptyl ketone disclosed two new fragmentation paths under electron impact.
