Abstract

The reaction and phase changes of the AIN-B 2 O 3 mixtures with 5-33.3 mol% B 2 O 3 was studied at high temperatures up to 1800 o C. Boron nitride (BN), Al 2 O 3 , 2Al 2 O 3 -B 2 O 3 , 9Al 2 O 3 -2B 2 O 3 , and aluminum oxynitride spinel (AlON) are formed during the reactions. Phases of product formed at 1800 o C are BN, AlON, Al 2 O 3 , and AlN. The effect of the formation mechanism of AlON on the growth of BN grains is discussed. The phase relation diagram is proposed based on the reaction results
