Abstract

Several dinuclear arsenic bridged carbonyl complexes with FeFe, MnCo, and mainly feCo bonds catalyse the dimerization of norbornadiene. The reactions can be directed exclusively to the exo-trans-exo or the Binor-S dimer. In two cases catalytically active intermediates could be isolated. Of these (CO) 4Fe-AsMe 2-Co(CO) 2C 7H 8 was characterized by an X-ray crystal structure analysis which showed that the norbornadiene molecule has opened the metal metal bond. The catalysts are inactive towards other olefinic substrates.
