Abstract

Introduction : To accomplish oral rehabilitation , we should always follow some basic principles described in literature , especially in full restorations , in which , among other precepts , we must rehabilitate the patient restoring them a vertical dimension in proper occlusion in centric relation . However, in some cases, even with the procedures recommended in literature , a satisfactory result may not occur. Hence, it is the dentist 's responsibility to solve the situation, even in unfavorable conditions. Proposition : To present a clinical rehabilitation case in which there was an occlusion collapse with impaired midline . Material and methods: Clinical record and an Informed Consent Statement . Case report: The patient was a 79-year old female with leucoderma , bearing an occlusion collapse with impaired midline, speech and chewing impairment , difficulties in neuromuscular control and suspicion of a minor stroke . The treatment involved the manufacturing of an implant-supported lower protocol prosthesis and a conventional upper full denture , but without patient handling for centric relation at the moment of the occlusal record . Conclusion : In the rare cases in which literature concepts do not present the proper results, it is up to the professional to identify the cause and, through a good clinical examination and proper diagnosis, plan the case again to achieve a good result .
