Abstract
Magic number 14! Re4Si7 is the first complex structure outside of the Nowotny Chimney Ladder series recognized as adhering to the 14-electron rule. Its structure is based on Si vacancies in the MoSi2 structure pattern clustering into periodic edge-dislocations (see figure). Coincident with its 14-electron count is a pseudo-gap in its electronic density of states.
